The 2020 GC50 Run Festival relocates to Coolangatta

The 2020 GC50 Run Festival relocates to Coolangatta

The GC50 Run Festival is excited to announce that in 2020, the event will relocate to the Southern Gold Coast, with Coolangatta playing host to the event in its 24th year. The beauty of this part of the Gold Coast will now be enjoyed by all participants for the first time in the event’s history.

Historically, only runners in the 50km event have been able to experience the course south of Currumbin Creek and now for the first time, runners in all distances will pass through some of the most spectacular parts of the Gold Coast this December.

The decision to relocate certainly wasn’t an easy one. Whilst we are delighted to be relocating to Coolangatta, it is with a heavy heart that (for now) we say goodbye to our home in the heart of Broadbeach, Kurrawa. With the continued growth of the event since 2017, it became clear that certain parts of the old course were no longer adequate to cater for the numbers the event was attracting. Therefore, after working closely with Gold Coast City Council we are delighted to announce our move south.

The New Course

Queen Elizabeth Park, Coolangatta will stage the new Event Village where runners will start and finish the 2020 GC50. The 50km course will utilise a two-lap format with each lap measuring 25km. Runners will head north along the pathways to the turnaround point in Palm Beach (Pirate Park), before turning back and heading south to Coolangatta.

To complete each lap, runners will complete a southern out-and-back to Greenmount, before making their way back to Queen Elizabeth Park to either finish or head out for their second lap.

The 30km event will follow the same two-lapped format, with the turnaround point located in Currumbin Alley.

15km runners will complete one lap and turn at the same point in Currumbin Alley as the 30km runners.

The 2020 Course Map Video can be viewed here.

This new course for 2020 means more on-course entertainment, more chances to high five your family and friends and a whole new level of atmosphere for the 2 x 25km Relay event, with the exchange now positioned within Queen Elizabeth Park.

Run, Sleep, Repeat?

Our 5km event will return to the pathways this year along with the 2020 Kids Dash Event that will offer 1.5km and 3km distances for children. These events will take place on Saturday 5th December, kicking off the festival of running in Coolangatta. For further information on our Twilight Runs click here.
