The  50km, 30km, 15km and 5km events that make up the Gold Coast 50 Run Festival use the footpaths and roads adjacent to the Gold Coast beachfront, home of the world’s most attractive beaches. Running from Kurrawa to Coolangatta & return, in the 50km event, the course provides athletes with spectacular views, regular water stops and aid stations . Don’t miss out on running this stunningly beautiful run course.

Events included in the festival are:

  • 50km – minimum age is 18
  • 30km – minimum age is 16
  • 15km – minimum age is 14
  • 5km – runners under 12 must be accompanied by a parent
  • 2 person x 25km relay – minimum age is 16
  • 3 person x 30km, 15km, 5km team event – NEW FOR 2018 (note: minimum ages are the same as the individual events)

Cut Off Times

Because of the terms of our Permit from Council Gold Coast, we will need to impose a cutoff time at 1:00 p.m.

Important 25km Relay Information

Mass restart for 25km relay

This applies to the two-person relay only. Relay runners doing the return leg (Coolangatta to Kurrawa) will leave when their outbound partner arrives at Coolangatta. However there will be a mass start at the 2:15 mark (approx 0730 hrs) for the return competitors whose outbound partner has not arrived by that time. Race times will be adjusted accordingly.

Return transport for 25km runners only and withdrawals

The majority of teams have their vehicle driven to the turnaround by the returning runner. The keys are then given to the outbound runner upon their arrival, who drives the vehicle back to the finish. We will have a drop box for car keys at the changeover point.

Athletes who drop out of the race must advise an official or an aid station captain of their withdrawal. A van will be available to transport you back to the finish precinct.

Aid Stations, Supply Drops & First Aid Provision

Aid stations

Competitors in the longer events are encouraged to carry their own supplies as the weather can be quite warm at this time of year, especially on the return leg. Full aid stations will be positioned at 5 km intervals and will carry water, sports drink, Coca Cola, chopped banana and glucose type lollies. These are situated at 5km, 10km, 15km, 20km and 25km, 30km, 35km, 40km and 45kmmarks.

Water stations only will be placed every 2.5km in between each aid station to allow athletes to fill camel baks or water bottles.

Don’t forget you can use one of the many showers located along the beachfront to cool down or refill your bottles..

Personal supply drop (50kms runners only)

We will drop any personal supplies (Bars, gels, drinks) at the 25 km turnaround at Coolangatta. Leave in the box provided at race registration.

First aid

For cuts and abrasions the aid stations will carry First Aid kits. A qualified paramedic will be on hand to attend to anything more serious. Emergency contact numbers will be shown on the back of your racebib.

Certificates, Trophies & Medals

Race certificates

The race will be timed electronically and the results will be available at the results page on raceday. Race certificates will be available online and can be printed off at your leisure.

Trophies

Solo 50 km, 30 km, 15 km & 5 km to first, second and third placed male and female. Two person relay trophies for first place male, female and mixed teams. Three person relay trophies for first place male, female and mixed teams

Medals

All finishers will receive a finisher medal specific to their distance.

Race Pack Collection & Event-Day Check In

Race Pack Postage

At point of entry you can opt to have your race pack and singlet posted to you for a fee of $9.95.  This is highly recommended as it will allow you to wear the singlet in training before using it on race day. Each distance will have its own distinct singlet colour.

Athletes who enter during the Early bird and Standard race entry periods are eligible for this service. Athletes who enter after November 5 (late entrants) will need to collect their race bibs and singlets at race registration on Saturday afternoon or on race morning.

Race Check-in/Registration

Race Check-in/Registration will take place at the Kurrawa Surf Club for athletes who have opted not to receive their race numbers and race singlets by mail. Times will be confirmed closer to the event. You can also enter on the day at the venue.

Race singlets

Race singlets will be provided to all entrants. Although not mandatory we encourage contestants to wear their race singlet on race day to be eligible for a special prize. In 2018 we are offering an option to receive your singlet mail as mentioned above.

The Courses & Maps

All of the courses within the GC50 Run Festival are out-and-back. 50 km from Kurrawa to Coolangatta; 30 km from Kurrawa to Currumbin; 15 km, from Kurrawa to Burleigh, 5 km along Hedges Avenue to Seaside Avenue.

Official Pacers

Official pacers will be provided by Gale Force Runners Squad for 4:30, 5:00, 5:30 and 6:00 hours in the 50 km and 2:30, 2:45, 3:00 and 3:30 in the 30 km event.

The FinisherPix Photo Pack includes ALL photos they identify of you in all digital formats (Basic digital image, Digital images with Finish Time, Digital images in certificate format). A link to download all images will automatically be emailed to you when the photos are available online. To aid your identification in the photo please ensure that your racebib is clearly visible. Please remember to pre-order these photo packs when you enter the event to take advantage of this great saving.

Venue

Starts and finishes in Kurrawa Park, Old Burleigh Road, Broadbeach opposite the Broadbeach State School (new permanent location for 2018).

Certified Course

This is one of a handful of officially accredited AIMS-IAAF certified 50 km road races in Australia. The 50 km race carries an IAU label which mean that performances are included in the world rankings.
